Accreditation of the new Latvian Defence Attache to Lithuania


On Friday, 17 June the new Latvian Defence Attache (DA) to Lithuania, Lieutenant Colonel Arkadijs Umbrasko, will be accredited at the Black Hall of the Ministry of National Defence in Vilnius.


The outgoing Latvian DA Commander Jurijs Verba will be awarded the Lithuanian National Defence System's level decoration Medal for Merits.

The accreditation ceremony is planned to be attended by the Undersecretary of the Lithuanian Ministry of National Defence Renatas Norkus, Deputy Head of the Latvian Mission, Mr Bonifacijs Daukšts, and ministerial and military representatives.


Lithuania and Latvia have maintained co-operation in the field in defence since 1993. The following military projects have been implemented by the three Baltic States -- Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia -- for over ten years so far: BALTRON – tri-national project Baltic Naval Squadron, BALTNET- a joint air space surveillance system , BALTDEFCOL – joint defence college. Military personnel of the Latvian Armed Forces also participate in operations in Iraq (120 persons), Afghanistan (10 persons), Kosovo (12 persons), Bosnia and Herzegovina (3 persons.)
