Lithuanian troops to receive medals after a mission in Iraq


On Friday, 27 August the Rukla-based Lithuanian Great Duke Algirdas Mechanised Infantry Battalion will host an official welcome ceremony marking the return of LITCON-3 (Lithuanian Contingent) from Iraq.


The LITCON-3 platoon servicemen will be awarded the National Defence System level decoration – Medal for International Missions. The troops will be congratulated by the Minister of National Defence, Linas Linkevičius, Commander of the Lithuanian Armed Forces, Major General Valdas Tutkus, Commander of the Motorised Infantry Brigade Iron Wolf, Lieutenant Colonel Gediminas Jurgutis, authorities of Jonava and Rukla, relatives of soldiers.


After a formal drill formation on the battalion's grounds,  LITDET–3 Commander, First Lieutenant Iskanderas Masktauskas, will give a report on his troops performance in Iraq.


The Lithuanian military personnel served in a six-month mission in Iraq alongside their Danish counterparts in the UK-controlled sector. Lithuanians' tasks included protection of a campsite, important assets in the city of Al-Kurna, as well as carrying out of patrols.


Note to the media: the event is scheduled to start at 10.00 hrs.


The event programme includes the following items:

10.00 – 10.30 – a formal formation and award ceremony on parade grounds of the battalion

10.40 – 12.00 – a short briefing about the mission in the meeting hall of the battalion.
