At the meeting in Helsinki, EU defence ministers discussed the possibilities of using artificial intellect and new technologies in defence 2019.08.30
![]() On August 28-29 Minister of National Defence Raimundas Karoblis participated in the European Union (EU) informal meeting of defence ministers in Helsinki. The meeting was started with a working dinner where ministers discussed the use of artificial intellect in defense and security. “We need to ensure the development of technologies in the field of defence and keep pace with world leaders. Ethical norms and legal regulation in this area are necessary but must not hinder technological development. We have to maintain a balance between security and humanitarian aspects, ”said the Minister of National Defence at the meeting. |

Tens of thousands celebrated the centenary of Lithuania’s military aviation at an event in Šiauliai 2019.07.28
![]() On July 27 The Lithuanian Air Force Base in Šiauliai hosted Air Show Falcon Wings 2019 marking the 100th anniversary of the Lithuanian military air capability. The event was attended by the leadership of the Ministry of National Defence and the Lithuanian Armed Forces — the audience were greeted by acting Minister of National Defence Raimundas Karoblis and recently inaugurated Chief of Defence Major General National Defence Valdemaras Rupšys. The air show with programs from various aircraft, static displays activities and competitions from aviation organisations and universities has attracted tens of thousands of viewers this year. |

The Baltic Sea bursts into bloom: wreath tributes lowered onto the water from a ship and a helicopter to honour those lost at sea 2019.07.27
![]() On July 27 one of the most important events of the Sea Festival took place on the Baltic Sea — flower wreaths were lowered onto the water with attendance of the President of the Republic of Lithuania, leadership of the Ministry of National Defence, representatives of the Lithuanian Air Force and the Lithuanian Navy. Two Lithuanian Navy vessels were in the ship parade: Aukštaitis (P14) patrol ship as the flagship and Šakiai search and rescue ship. |

![]() On August 1 rotations and leadership of the NATO enhanced Forward Presence (eFP) Battalion Battle Group Lithuania will change over at a ceremony at the Lithuanian Great Hetman Jonušas Radvila Training Regiment in Rukla. Representative of the German Army Lieutenant Colonel Peer Papenbroock will hand over the command to another German representative Lieutenant Colonel Rouven Habel after having been in charge of the NATO eFP Battalion Battle Group Lithuania since February. Lt Col Rouven Habel is the commander of the 391st Mechanised Infantry Battalion of the Bundeswehr. |
