On June 28 Ministers of Defence and Chiefs of Defence of the United Kingdom-led Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) were all gathered together for the first time to mark the first anniversary of the JEF in Klaipėda in an unprecedented format.

On June 25 Ministers of Defence meeting in Northern Group format agreed on further collective actions in the area of strategic communication in order to coordinate communication of exercises in the region and the countries’ engagement in the countermeasures to the Russian propaganda better.

On June 26 Vice Minister of National Defence Vytautas Umbrasas discussed security situation in the Baltic and the Mediterranean regions at a meeting with Ambassador of Portugal to Lithuania Rita Laranjinha. Vice Minister thanked Portugal for the support to the efforts to strengthen NATO’s eastern borders and the security of Lithuania and the Baltic region, and praised active bilateral cooperation, especially in the area of military exercises and training.

“NATO Allies are united in their response to the ongoing Russia’s violation of the INF Treaty. Therefore Moscow has to be kept clear of the doubt whether the Alliance is ready to take every measure necessary to ensure the security of the Allies and reliability of the Alliance’s deterrence and defence measures,” Minister of National Defence Raimundas Karoblis states at the NATO Defence Ministers meeting in Brussels on June 26–27.

Defence Ministers and Chiefs from the nine partner nations of the UK-led Joint Expeditionary Force will meet on 28 June  in Klaipėda, Lithaunia, to mark the one-year anniversary of the force reaching full operating capacity.

On June 25 Minister of National Defence Raimundas Karoblis is attending a meeting of the Minister of Defence of the Norther n Group in Berlin (Germany). The Ministers are planned to discuss security situation in the Baltic Sea and the North Atlantic regions, implementation of the simplified movement of military forces between the Nordic and the Baltic region countries, as well as the necessity to strengthen strategic communication to counterbalance fake new and propaganda.

On June 25 first 2 of 88 Infantry Fighting Vehicles (IFV) “Vilkas” were delivered to Lithuania. After a year of intense testing in training areas and testing centres of Germany and the Netherlands, serial production of the squad-level fighting vehicles for the Lithuanian Armed Forces has started.

At the Baltic Defence Committee’s meeting in Tartu (Estonia) on June 19–20 Minister of National Defence Raimundas Karoblis and his Latvian and Estonian counterparts Artis Pabriks and Jüri Luik agreed on mutual stance, particularly concerning NATO air defence, ahead of the upcoming NATO Defence Ministers’ meeting.

Foreign military observers to visit Exercise Iron Wolf 2019-1

Lithuania seeks to ensure transparency and demonstrates openness, therefore military observers from Belarus, Russia, and also from Finland and Sweden have been invited to visit multinational Exercise Iron Wolf 2019–1 currently running in Lithuania. Military observers from Belarus and Sweden will conduct a visit to Lithuania on June 18–20 and will observe the exercise on June 19.
