New Defence Attaché of Georgia accredited to Lithuania


On March 1 new Defence Attaché of Georgia Col Zviad Shanava was accredited to Lithuania at a ceremony at the Ministry of National Defence.


“We welcome the reform Georgia is implementing on its path towards NATO and the European Union. We are ready to continue our active cooperation and render both, political and practical support, especially in cyber defence and strategic communication,” Vice Minister of National Defence underscored welcoming the new Defence Attaché of Georgia.


The accreditation ceremony was also attended by Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Georgia in Lithuania Khatuna Salukvadze, and representatives of the Ministry of National Defence and the Lithuania Armed Forces.


Defence Attaché of Georgia to Lithuania Col Z. Shanava is based in Vilnius, he is also accredited to Latvia and Estonia.

Col Z. Shanava replace d Col Archil Petremgvdlishvili who held the positions from 2015 to October 2018.


Col Z. Shanava studied the Military Academy in Yaroslavl (Russia), Armed Forces College in Istanbul (Turkey), he also graduated from the Tbilisi State University. He held a variety of positions at divisions of the National Defence System of Georgia, at the Ministry of Defence and the General Staff.


Defence cooperation of Lithuania and Georgia


Lithuania and Georgia actively cooperate in military area. Georgian representatives are studying at the General Jonas Žematis Military Academy of Lithuania, Lithuanian Armed Forces School, Military Medical Service, Baltic Defence College in Estonia. High-level visits and academic exchange of English language students and teachers of Lithuanian and Georgian military academies are arranged. Lithuania provides consultations for Georgian colleagues on cyber security and strategic communication, Georgian troops train in Lithuania and Lithuanian – in Georgia.. Lithuania also supports implementation of projects of the Substantial NATO-Georgia Package: since 2015 Lithuania and other Nordic and Baltic countries have been helping with the creation of the NATO-Georgia joint Training and Assessment Centre.
