Works of art of Lithuanian youth presented in Ghor

December 20, exposition of works of art of Lithuanian children was opened at the Information and Culture Centre of Chaghcharan, provincial capital of Ghor. It was presented for community of Chaghcharan by Lithuanian peacekeepers serving in Ghor with the Lithuanian-led PRT.

 

The exposition was opened by Commander PRT Col Remigijus Baltrėnas, PRT troops, new province of Ghor Aqahi Abdullah Heiwad, representatives of provincial administration, governmental and non-governmental organisations, including those of youth, operating in the province, representatives of local media, and other members of local community.

 

In the exposition works of art produced by pupils of PE Alytus Youth Centre, paintings, works of pottery, wool, origami and other techniques, are displayed.

 

„The exposition is a fine example of people of two different countries trying to share their cultures. It is also an illustration of peace and noble purpose Lithuanian troops have come here with aside peacekeeping tasks“, said Governor of Ghor Aqahi Abdullah Heiwad in the opening event.

 

The exposition will be on display in Information and Culture Department of Ghor , later it will be presented to educational institutions of Ghor and their students.

 

The Lithuanian-led PRT in Ghor is a joint civilian-military mission, a part of NATO's ISAF, that was launched in Ghor in summer of 2005. The main task of the mission is to help Government of Afghanistan to extend authority in the province, ensure security and create environment for provincial reconstruction.

 

At the moment the 11th rotation of the Lithuanian-led PRT serve in Afghanistan, the shift is based on the Lithuanian Grand Duke Kęstutis Motorised Infantry Battalion.

 

Representatives of Denmark, Georgia, Japan, USA, Poland, Finland and Ukraine serve together with Lithuanian military and civilian personnel in Ghor PRT camp in Chaghcharan.

 

PE Alytus Youth Centre is a modern, democratic and creative school of non-formal education aimed at fulfilling educational and knowledge needs of youth, supporting them in integration as active society members, bringing up public spirit, initiative, activeness and self-expression.
