Lithuania delivered assistance to Ghor police

December 8, Chaghcharan PRT and Police Operational Mentor and Liaison Team (POML) donated several motorbikes to Afghan National Police of Ghor during a ceremony at the PRT base.

 

POMLT Commander Lt Col Vidmantas Žilakauskas discussed with Assistance Chief of Ghor police Col Zainallahbdin further prospects of close cooperation with local police officers.

 

„We hope that these vehicles will help Ghor police officers carry out more efficiently their duties of ensuring security and order in Chaghcharan ", said Lt Col V. Žilakauskas.

Assistance rendered to girls' school in Chaghcharan

December 4, Advisor for development cooperation of the Lithuanian Special Mission in Afghanistan and military personnel of Chaghcharan PRT delivered a batch of assistance to a girls' school in the provincial capital. The school received a variety of equipment and furniture - computers, printer, scanner, photo copier, stools, desks and other means for improving quality of learning.

 

The assistance was handed over during official closing ceremony of the support project „Assistance to Soltan Razieh girls' school".

December 5, three-day Baltic CIMIC Course for the fifth time held for functional specialists in Gen Jonas Žemaitis Lithuanian Military Academy ended The event pulled together over 20 soldiers from the Lithuanian Land Force and ten from Estonian Volunteer Force (Kaitseliit).

 

CIMIC Functional Specialist Course placed emphasis on experience of neighbour states in multinational missions. Lithuanian military representatives shared lessons learned in the mission in Afghanistan and Estonian representatives their experience in Kosovo.

On December 2 Lithuanian Defence Minister Rasa Juknevičienė and Chief of Defence of Lithuania Maj Gen Arvydas Pocius discussed with Deputy Chairman of the NATO Military Committee Walter E. Gaskin implementation of the new NATO Strategic Concept, operation in Afghanistan, Baltic Air-policing mission, and points of missile defence.

 

National Defence Minister Rasa Juknevičienė reaffirmed in the meeting with Deputy Chairman of the NATO Military Committee addressing financing of the Lithuanian Armed Forces Lithuania's commitments in Afghanistan despite difficult financial situation. Minister and Chief of Defence noted that Police Operational Mentor and Liaison Team (POML) entered operation in Ghor, Afghanistan, this year, and an Air Training Team planned to be deployed to Ghor next year.

Maj Gen V. Vaikšnoras nominated as Dean of NATO Military Committee

Military Representative to NATO and the EU of Lithuania Maj Gen Vitalijus Vaikšnoras was nominated as Dean of the NATO Military Committee to take up the duties from December 1.

 

According to Maj Gen V. Vaikšnoras, service of the Dean of the NATO Military Committee is a honorary service - it is assumed by Military Representatives of NATO states at consent of their represented countries and Chairman of the NATO Military Committee.

Fifth Baltic Civil and Military Cooperation Course held in Vilnius

The fifth Civil and Military Cooperation (CIMIC) Course for functional specialists will be held for three days in Gen Jonas Žemaitis Lithuanian Military Academy from December 2. This year the course is organised by the Land Force Command of the Lithuanian Armed Forces. The event will be attended by 20 troops of the Lithuanian Land Force and 11 - from the Estonian Volunteer Forces (Est. Kaitseliit).

 

During the course listeners will familiarise with NATO CIMIC Doctrine, its fulfillment in the Baltic States, tasks of functional specialists, key principles of work organization, characteristics of civilian environment in multinational operation areas.

December 1, Vice Minister of National Defence will attend Poland's and Baltic Defence Vice Ministers' meeting held in Warsaw, Poland.

 

The meeting will address results of the Lisbon Summit, the new Strategic Concept, and mutual actions of countries to strengthen security in the region.
