Lithuania withdrew personnel form the EU operation in Bosnia and Herzegovina

On December 20 service of an officer of the Lithuanian Armed Forces in the EU Operation Althea in Bosnia and Herzegovina came to an end together finishing Lithuania's participation in the operation.

 

Lithuania has been participating in the Operation Althea since 2004 when it was started. For the period till present Lithuania used to maintain an officer for a half-year duty to Althea headquarters in Sarajevo. Twelve Lithuanian officers were to the operation within six years.

 

The key task of the EU Operation Althea is to ensure safe and stable environment, to prevent potential conflict situations, and control fulfilment of provisions of the Dayton Peace Agreement.

 

After Lithuania's withdrawal over 1.9 thousand personnel from 24 states will continue with their commitment to the operation.
