Remains of soldiers of Napoleon's Army reburied in Antakalnis Cemetery

November 29, 18 bodies of troops of Napoleon's Great Army discovered in Vilnius region last year were reburied in Antakalnis Cemetery. An analysis revealed that the remains belonged to three units of the Great Army: infantry, dragoon, and hussar.

 

Representatives of the Embassy of France in Lithuania, Vice Minister of Defence Vytautas Umbrasas, Honour Guard Company of the Lithuanian Armed Forces, and cadets of Saint Cyr Military Academy attended the ceremonious reburial.

 

Participants of the ceremony paid tribute by laying flowers at tombs of the Lithuanian freedom fighters.

imgNovember 22-26, staff personnel of Motorised Infantry Brigade „Iron Wolf" took part in training event Errant Knight arranged by units of the Danish Division in Haderslev (Denmark) involving planning and completion of defence operations in Lithuania's territory.

 

Lithuanian soldiers participated in the staff exercise together with staff officers of Danish Division and of Estonian and Latvian brigades affiliated to the Division, and Danish Advisory Team.

Afghan National Security Forces prevented suicide bomber

imgNovember 28, at night, Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) including police forces and security directorate carried out an emergency search operation on the basis of received information that a suicide bomber attack is being arranged in Chaghcharan, the suicider was found and blew himself up during the assault on the building where he was hiding. No one else was injured.

First meeting of Police Operational Mentor and Liaison Training Team of Ghor with Ghor police leadership

imgOn November 25 Police Operational Mentor and Liaison Training Team (POMLT-1) held the first meeting with top-ranking officials of Afghan National Police in Ghor.

 

In the meeting Commander POMLT-1 Lt Col Vidmantas Žilakauskas presented tasks, goals and areas of activity of the unit to Deputy Chief of Ghor Police, Acting Chief Col Zainallahbdin and Chief of Combat Training Section Maj Adin Sarajulldin. Police officers of Ghor with POMLT command also discussed opportunities of cooperation, and met POMLT coaches.

USTRANSCOM Commander will pay a visit to Lithuania

imgNovember 25-26, Commander of US Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM) Gen Duncan J. McNabb Commander will pay a visit to Lithuania.

 

During the visit the guest is scheduled to meet with officials across the institutions of Lithuania. Gen D. McNabb is meeting National Defence Minister Rasa Juknevičienė and Chief of Defence of Lithuania Maj Gen Arvydas Pocius at an official dinner at the US Embassy.

Medical team of PRT-12 performed surgery on an Afghan boy at Chaghcharan base

November 25, military medics of the Lithuanian-led Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT-12) performed an operation on a local 12-year old boy from Chaghcharan. The surgical operation performed at the Chaghcharan PRT base took about one hour.

 

„Surgery went well, now the boy is undergoing treatment at the PRT's medical facility. If recovery process is going fine and without complications, and the 12-year old and his parents follow recommendations, the boy will be healthy again very soon," said head of medical section Maj Erikas Kenstavičius.

imgNovember 24, listeners of the Higher Command Staff Course of the Baltic Defence College (BALTDEFCOL) pay a visit to the Ministry of National Defence. Purpose of the visit is to familiarise with security and defence policy of Lithuania, its principles, interests and current issues.

 

At the Ministry of National Defence the guests met with the Chief of Defence Staff Brig Gen Edvardas Mažeikis, and other representatives of MoND. In the meetings the guests were briefed on current matters of security and defence policy of Lithuania.

Military Attachés accredited to Lithuania will take part in the events of the Restoration of the Lithuanian Armed Forces Day

November 23-24, military attachés accredited to Lithuania will be held in Lithuania. On the first day of the visit military attachés will join the events of the Restoration of the Lithuanian Armed Forces in Vilnius - they will observe solemn formation at Cathedral Square, and military parade down Gediminas Avenue, etc.

 

On November 24, military defence attachés will pay a visit to the Lithuanian Land Force Headquarters in Vilnius. They are expected to meet with Commander Land Force Maj Gen Vytautas Žukas, Commander National Defence Volunteer Force Lt Col Romualdas Moldaris, etc.

November 23, Restoration of the Lithuanian Armed Forces Day

imgOn November 23 Lithuania marked the Restoration of the Armed Forces Day. On this day 92 years ago the contemporary Prime Minister of the Republic of Lithuania Augustinas Voldemaras signed the Order No. 1 giving legal basis for formation of the Armed Forces of Lithuania.

 

This year celebration of the 92nd anniversary of the restoration of the Lithuanian Armed Forces encompasses a number of events across Lithuania including celebratory opening of a memorial for the 16 February 1949 Declaration of Independence of the Council of the Liberation Movement of Lithuania in Mėnaičiai village (Radviliškis Distr.), commemoration of the Lithuanian Armed Forces' victories against the Bermontians in Radviliškis, solemn parade in Vilnius Cathedral Square in Vilnius, etc.

On November 19-20, Minister of National Defence Rasa Juknevičienė and Chief of Defence of Lithuania Maj Gen Arvydas Pocius participated in the NATO Summit, Lisbon, in the delegation of the President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė.

 

On November 19, the new NATO's Strategic Concept was adopted by the Heads of State and Government at the historical Lisbon Summit: the document reaffirms NATO as a primarily  military Alliance ready to counter conventional threats ad well as emerging security challenges. The fact that the Strategic Concept embodies the fundamental provisions of collective defence and security guarantees backed by actual defence plans, exercises and infrastructure, is of essential value for Lithuania.
