Defence Ministers discussed points of fulfilling the Lisbon Treaty, NATO-EU relations and cooperation with third countries

imgFebruary 24-25, Minister of National Defence Rasa Juknevičienė took part in informal EU Defence Ministers' meeting in Palma de Mallorca (Spain). Defence Ministers discussed points of implementing the Lisbon Treaty, NATO-EU relations and cooperation with third countries.

 

EU Defence Ministers addressed application of provisions of the Lisbon Treaty in the EU's Common Security and Defence Policy. R. Juknevičienė also participated in discussions on the role of the presiding country in security and defence, as well as the status defence ministers after the Lisbon Treaty has come into force in December.

imgFebruary 24, State Secretary for European Affairs of France Pierre Lellouche visited Šiauliai Airbase of the Lithuanian Air Force. At the Airbase the guest was received by Commander Lithuanian Air Force Brig. Gen. Artūras Leita and Head of the Airbase Lt. Col. Audronius Navickas.

 

At the Airbase P. Lellouche met with members of the French Air Contingent currently providing security for the Baltic skies.

First crop of Ghowr Teacher Training Centre congratulated by Lithuanian PRT

imgFebruary 21, the first crop of courses organised by Teacher Training Centre held graduation event in Chaghcharan, capital of Ghowr, province of Afghanistan protected by the Lithuanian-led Ghowr PRT.

 

Together with around 180 graduates of the course, representatives of local administration, several hundred of invited guests, Head of PRT's Civilian Component Linas Linkevičius and Chief of Staff of PRT-10 Lt. Col. Artūras Jasinskas.

Governor of Ghowr Sayed Mohammad Eqbal Munib congratulated the graduates and said that educated people are able to contribute their knowledge and skills to development and fundamental rearrangements of their country.

Work meeting of Lithuanian and Belarusian arms control experts will be held in Vilnius

imgFebruary 24-25, work meeting of Lithuanian and Belarusian arms control experts will take place at the Ministry of National Defence in Vilnius. The meeting is held under bilateral agreement between Lithuania and Belarus on additional trust and security enhancing means. Points of improving practical implementation of the bilateral agreement will be discussed during the meting.

 

This is a second work meeting of Lithuanian and Belarusian of such character held under the agreement. The first one took place in February in Minsk, Belarus.

Lithuanian civilians and military attend to women's issues in Ghowr

imgOn February 21 members of Chaghcharan PRT-10 conducted a patrol in Tahar I Temur village where they met with village's senior and members of council as well as delivered assistance for locals. Another goal of the patrol was attention to women's problems in the village.

 

Commander PRT-10 Col. Gediminas Macijauskas and representatives of local community discussed problems faced by locals, found out how they were spending winter, whether participation in development cooperation projects related to provincial reconstruction is successful, and how collaboration with local authority institutions was going.

On February 24-25 Minister of National Defence Rasa Juknevičienė will take part in an informal meeting of the EU Defence Minister in Palma de Mallorca (Spain).

 

In the meeting Defence Ministers will discuss points of international EU's engagements, NATO EU relations, development of EU crisis management capabilities. They will also touch upon implementation of Lisbon Treaty in the Common Security and Defence Policy.

imgFebruary 18, Commander of Military Contingent of the Lithuanian-led Chaghcharan PRT Col. Gediminas Macijauskas and Head of the PRT's Civilian Component, Deputy Head of the Lithuanian Special Mission in Afghanistan, Ambassador Linas Linkevičius visited Sangow Bar village of Ghowr were Lithuania had opened small hydroelectric power plant.

 

Representatives of PRT met with villagers' council, took interest in security situation in surroundings of the village, asked locals about their spending winter, participation in provincial development processes, cooperation between locals and institutions of provincial administration.

Chief of Joint Staff of Latvia visited Joint Staff of Lithuanian Armed Forces

imgFebruary 18, Brig. Gen. Andis Dilāns Chief of Joint Staff of Latvia and delegation paid a visit to the Joint Staff of the Lithuanian Armed Forces (Vilnius). Military representatives of Latvia met with Chief of Joint Staff Brig. Gen. Algis Vaičeliūnas and heads of boards of the Joint Staff. The guests shared experience of participation in the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) operation in Afghanistan, touched upon plans with the Lithuanian Armed Forces.

 

Multinational operations Lithuania is currently involved in with the main focus on activities of the Lithuanian-led PRT deployed in Ghowr and of the Special Operations Squadron deployed in southern Afghanistan under ISAF, were represented to delegation led by Brig. Gen. A. Dilans.

Representatives of Sea Surveillance and Co-operation in the Baltic Sea project parties convened in Vilnius

imgFebruary 17-19, representatives of countries participating in the multilateral Sea Surveillance and Co-operation in the Baltic Sea (SUCBAS) project met at the Ministry of National Defence (Vilnius).

In the meeting members of Coordination Group and Board approved activity plans for the nearest future, shared experience of coordinating among countries procedures of sea surveillance, addressed other points related to activity of the project.

Lithuanian Land Force soldiers attended Denmark-hosted training

imgFebruary 10-12, staff personnel of the Motorised Infantry Brigade „Iron Wolf" of the Lithuanian Land Force took part in „Errant Knight" exercise held for the Danish Division's units in Nymindegab, Denmark. The event tailored to enhance participants' readiness for peacekeeping operations was also attended by personnel of the Danish Division Staff and staffs of Latvian and Estonian brigades affiliated to the Danish Division, and military of the Danish Division Advising Team - a total of around 100 individuals.
