Vice Minister of National Defence G. Jeglinskas emphasised that high-tech development should be a national priority at the European Defence Industry Summit

On December 4 Vice Minister of National Defence Giedrimas Jeglinskas took part in the European Defence Industry Summit in Brussels. Participants of the event exchange views and insights on the strategic partnership between the European Union and NATO in mobilising resources for the development of European defence research and technology, discussed multilateral cooperation, investment into technology and innovation and enhancement of the European Single Market.

 

In his remarks on the prospects of the Lithuanian defence industry and topicalities of national security, Vice Minister G.Jeglinskas stressed that the pace of technological advance and innovative products created unique opportunities for companies achieving high added value to consolidate positions in defence sector even if they were small. “High-tech development should be a national priority we could use via the new initiatives of the European Defence Fund, and particularly, the European Union Permanent Structured Cooperation. It is important to identify the niches we can be competitive in right now,” Vice Minister said.

 

Representatives of defence industry, policy shapers, representatives of small and medium-sized companies, journalists, and representatives of academic community discussed security trends, technological challenges, innovation and future of the European defence industry at the event in Brussels.

 

The European Defence Industry Summit was attended by experts from the European Investment Bank, EU and NATO member states’ governments, European Defence Agency, Atlantic Treaty Association, European Commission and NATO.
