New Defence Attaché of Finland to be accredited to Lithuania


On July 13 Defence Attaché of Finland in Lithuania will change over at a ceremony at the Ministry of National Defence. After holding the position since August 2014 Commander Jussi Parttyli Voutilainen will concede to Lieutenant Colonel Antti Edvard Hauvala.


The accreditation ceremony will be attended by Vice Minister of National Defence Edvinas Kerza, representatives of the Ministry of National Defence and the Lithuanian Armed Forces, presence of Ambassador of Finland HE Christer Michelsson is expected.


The incoming Finland’s Defence Attaché to Lithuania Lt Col A. E. Hauvala is a graduate of the Military Academy and National Defence University of Finland, he also studied at the Baltic Defence College and deployed with NATO Kosovo Force (KFOR).


Finland’s Defence Attaché to Lithuania Lt Col A. E. Hauvala will be based in Tallinn (Estonia).


Lithuanian and Finnish military personnel cooperate in various military exercises. Finland’s forces trained in exercises Saber Strike , Amber Hope. Since 2012 the Finnish Air Force has been a participant of the Baltic Region Training Event (BRTE) called Ramstein Alloy from 2016. Finnish troops have been training in those exercises since 2012.


In 2013 military instructors of Lithuania joined the Finnish-led Nordic-Baltic Advisory Team and are taking part in the European Union-led Training Mission in Mali (EUTM). Lithuanian soldiers also trained for the European Union Naval Force - Operation ATALANTA counter piracy and armed robbery off the Somali coast in Finland.
