On November 30 Minister of National Defence Raimundas Karoblis is departing for the United States of America to attend the Reagan National Defense Forum (RNDF). The Minister and U.S. security and defence officials will discuss the most significant challenges of the present day of the global security and U.S. national security agenda. The Forum is planned to cover the topics of the U.S. defence priorities, the most important challenges to the U.S. security agenda, development of the U.S. defence industry, and plans of the present administration to strengthen the U.S. Armed Forces, and other issues.

This is the first time representatives of Lithuania have been invited to attend the Forum.

“The Forum will address priority aspects of the U.S. national security agenda and strengthening of the military which are also relevant to Lithuania in terms of ensuring further U.S. role in strengthening the security in our region,” Minister R. Karoblis says.

The Reagan National Defense Forum is one of the most important annual events for the U.S. security and defence community attended by representatives of the U.S. Administration, Congressmen, high-ranking military commanders, representatives of influential media outlets, and several invited guests from abroad. The event is planned to be attended by U.S. National Security Advisor Lieutenant General H.R. McMaster, Deputy Secretary of Defence P.M. Shanahan, Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology and Logistics E. Lord, and roughly 100 more high-ranking persons shaping the U.S. security and defence policy.

The United States of America is Lithuania’s critical strategic defence partner. When the security situation in the region changed in 2014, the U.S. was the first ally to deploy additional air assets and personnel for persistent presence in the Baltic states to ensure air defence. U.S. soldiers are training in military exercises and other events of military cooperation in Lithuania. A U.S. Air Force Detachment is the current rotation conducting the NATO Air Policing Mission in the Baltic states from Šiauliai Base.
