Data on interceptions of aircraft completed near the Baltic States’ borders on September 4-10 , 2017

On September 4-10 NATO fighter aircraft conducting the NATO Air Policing Mission in the Baltic states carried out three alert scrambles to identify and escort military aircraft of the Russian Federation in international airspace over the Baltic Sea.

 

On September 5 NATO fighters intercepted two Su-27s over the Baltic Sea flying from and back to Kaliningrad. The aircraft did not have flight plans, their onboard transponders were switched off and no radio contact with the regional air traffic control centre was kept.

 

On September 8 NATO fighter jets scrambled twice to intercept military aircraft of the Russian Federation. An An-12 was intercepted in both cases, first flying from mainland Russia to Kaliningrad, then – vice versa. The aircraft was flying forth and back according to a flight plan, kept radio contact with air traffic control, its onboard transponder was switched off.
