Data on interceptions of aircraft completed near the Baltic States’ borders on September 3 – 9, 2018

On September 3 – 9 NATO fighter aircraft conducting the NATO Air Policing Mission in the Baltic states were scrambled four times to identify and escort military aircraft of the Russian Federation in international airspace over the Baltic Sea.

 

On September 5 NATO fighter aircraft intercepted two aircraft of the Russian Federation, IL-76 and AN-26, flying from Kaliningrad to mainland Russia with their onboard transponders on, without the flight plans, maintaining radio communication with the regional air traffic control centre.

 

On September 5 NATO fighter aircraft intercepted one AN-12 of the Russian Federation flying from mainland Russia to Kaliningrad with its onboard transponder on, without the flight plan, maintaining radio communication with the regional air traffic control centre.

 

On September 8 NATO fighter jets intercepted two AN-26s flying from Kaliningrad to mainland Russia. One of them had its onboard transponder switched on, without the flight plan, and maintained radio contact with the regional air traffic control centre, the other one did not use the onboard transponder, did not have the flight plan, and kept radio contact with the regional air traffic control centre.

 

On September 8 NATO fighter aircraft intercepted on AN-12 flying from Kaliningrad to mainland Russia with its onboard transponder on, without the flight plan, maintaining radio communication with the regional air traffic control centre.
