Data on interceptions of aircraft completed near the Baltic States’ borders on December 25-31, 20172018.01.02
![]() On December 25 – 31 NATO aircraft conducting the Air Policing Mission in the Baltic states were scrambled twice to intercept military aircraft of the Russian Federation in international airspace over the Baltic Sea.
On December 25 NATO fighter aircraft identified and escorted on AN-26 flying from mainland Russia to Kaliningrad. The aircraft had no flight plan and its onboard transponder was switched off, the crew maintained radio communication with the regional air traffic control centre.
On December 27 NATO fighters intercepted an AN-26 flying from Kaliningrad to the mainland of the Russian Federation. It had a flight plan and radio contact was kept but the onboard transponder of the aircraft was switched off.
