Data on interceptions of aircraft completed near the Baltic States’ borders from June 27 to July 3

In the period from June 27 to July 3 NATO fighter aircraft conducting NATO Air Policing tasks in the Baltic states were scrambled three times to intercept military aircraft of the Russian Federation in international airspace over the Baltic Sea.

 

On June 27 NATO fighter jets identified and escorted an IL-20 electronic reconnaissance aircraft of the Russian Federation flying from and back to Kaliningrad in international airspace over the Baltic Sea without a flight plan, with switched off onboard transponder, and without maintaining radio communication.

 

On June 28 NATO air policing fighters intercepted an Il-20 electronic reconnaissance aircraft of the Russian Federation in international airspace over the Baltic Sea bound for mainland Russia and away from Kaliningrad. The aircraft had its transponder switched off, did not maintain radio communication, and had a flight plan pre-filed.

 

On June 30 NATO fighter aircraft identified and escorted two Russian Su-27 fighter jets flying from and back to Kaliningrad in international airspace over the Baltic Sea (without flight plans, without radio communication, and without transponders), and a RussianTu-134 military cargo aircraft flying from mainland Russia to Kaliningrad according to all requirements (With a flight plan, maintaining radio communication, and with a switched-on onboard transponder).
