Lithuanian and U.S. air capabilities exercised together in Kazlų Rūda Training Area

On March 20 the Lithuanian Armed Forces and the 2nd Bomb Wing of the U.S. Air Force trained together in an exercise at the Lithuanian Armed Forces Brigadier General Kazys Veverskis Training Area in Kazlų Rūda where aviation firing range is suitable for aircraft to deliver fire at ground-based targets. It was also the first time digital battle control systems were used.

The Lithuanian Armed Forces is looking into buying a new oil pollution response and maritime rescue ship for assignments in the Baltic Sea.    

The Defence Materiel Agency under the Ministry of National Defence has completed public market consultations concerning the procurement – market participants have been familiarised with procurement documents, technical specification of the ship needed, qualification requirements for ship builders, and discussed other relevant information. The invitation to tender is planned to be announced in April.

On March 20–21 the General Jonas Žemaitis Military Academy of Lithuania will hold international Baltic Military Conference 2019 for the first organised in Lithuania. The main themes of the event will be training for defence and application of the Western military experience in the Baltics. The conference will be opened by Minister of National Defence Raimundas Karoblis and Minister of Defence of Finland Jussi Niinistö, high ranking officers, defence policy shapers, diplomats, academics, and other experts from the Baltic region, NATO allies, U.S., and partner countries will be guests at the event and deliver addresses.

Finland is joining the Lithuanian-led project for developing EU cyber response teams

On March 20 Finland is planned to formally join the Lithuania-initiated project for developing the European Union Cyber Rapid Response Teams (CRRTs). The corresponding Declaration of Intent will be signed by Minister of Defence of Finland Jussi Niinistö while on a formal visit in Vilnius.

On March 19 the 5th Lithuanian Armed Forces Force Protection Unit (FPU-5) will be farewelled before deploying to the United Nations stabilisation operation in Mali, MINUSMA, at a ceremony in Vytautas the Great War Museum garden in Kaunas.

Georgia is going to join the Regional Cyber Security Centre to be established in Kaunas

Lithuania and Georgia are intensifying their cooperation in cyber defence area: a plan for joint cyber exercise will be developed and experience will be exchanged on developing cyber tools, Georgia is also planned to engage in the activity of the Regional Cyber Security Centre to be established in Kaunas.

A closer cooperation in the area of cyber security was agreed to earlier today by Minister of national Defence of Lithuania Raimundas Karoblis and Minister of Defence of Georgia Levan Izoria by signing a Declaration of Intent in Vilnius.

On March 7 Vice Minister of National Defence Vytautas Umbrasas and Minister of Finance Vilius Šapoka of Lithuania set down to a breakfast in Rukla with Minister of Defence Ank Bijleveld and Minister of Finance Wopke Hoekstra of the Kingdom of the Netherlands who have come to Lithuania to visit soldiers of the Netherlands deployed in Rukla as part of the NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Battle Group (eFP BG).
